What does Professional Christian Counseling mean?

I am frequently asked how being a Professional Christian Counselor is different from a counselor who is a Christian. The distinction is training. Any counselor can be a Christian in their personal life. My training allows me to consider all four aspects of health: mental, emotional, physical, & spiritual. Many feel that the spiritual facet of their lives is key to their health and wish to include this important aspect in counseling. My integration skills apply Christian principles and interventions to help clients that desire to include this approach to well- being. Interventions may include prayer, applying Biblical principles, scriptures, or reading texts from Christian authors. These techniques are not affiliated with any particular denomination and function to respect the denomination and / or beliefs that clients bring to counseling. By using these tools I am able to provide a comprehensive view of health that many find more fulfilling. Professional Christian Counseling is NOT just quoting scripture or shaming clients by pointing out how they fail. It is about embracing the grace that allows us to be fallen human creations, whose Creator wishes to have a deep and meaningful relationship with, and because of this profound love, we find our value.
